Following the drought of 2017, March through June 2018 experienced rainfall well above seasonal averages, which made it impossible to enter the vineyards to properly protect the vines against disease. The complete absence of the mistral wind, combined with persistent rain, created very high pressure from downy mildew, leading to crop loss in some plots. On top of this, hail struck the vineyard on June 24 — a historic first for Pierrefeu. Summer was slow to arrive but eventually came on June 21, allowing the grapes to ripen successfully. As a result, the harvest began on August 23 and concluded on September 14.[/vc_column_text][vc_custom_heading text=”GROWING” font_container=”tag:h1|font_size:17|text_align:left” use_theme_fonts=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1511358564309{margin-bottom: 10px !important;}” el_class=”font-bold”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1546088048048{margin-bottom: 20px !important;}”]

The vineyards are worked by hand, using natural animal fertilizers. We do not use any chemical weed killers. Buds are trimmed and a green harvest is practice to purposefully limit yields. A part of the vineyard is plowed with horses. In the press room, the berries are destemmed, slightly treaded and transferred into stainless steel vats. The alcoholic fermentation is run to extract optimum fruit and color, but also to produce an elegant wine. Maceration lasts about 10 days. Once the malolactic fermentation is over, the wines are stored into concrete vats. Two or three racking were accomplished during the ageing. The wine is blended in tanks and bottled at the Château.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row full_width=”stretch_row” css=”.vc_custom_1497021749699{margin-top: 70px !important;border-radius: 1px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_custom_heading text=”TASTING NOTES” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:17|text_align:left|color:%23be0216″ use_theme_fonts=”yes” el_class=”font-bold”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=””]

Our reds seduce for their elegance, amaze by their ability to age; dress ruby-purple, intense nose, notes of black fruits and aromatic herbs, dry and ample palate, very generous.
